By now the gyms and Health Clubs are almost back to the regulars.
The annual resolution setters have either stopped, forgot to start, or are about to stop or forget to start next week.
You my friend are in luck.
If you set out to achieve something new, change a behavior or habit or anything else – here are a handful of key tips to keep you motivated and on track.
Grab a pen and a notebook or a pad of paper – yes I would like you to write a few things out.
You can speak them onto a recording later and have it transcribed or type the notes onto your laptop as you wish, however, for now I need you to write. You need to own it.
First item: Why?
Why do you want to do this thing? For each item on your list, why? So write out the item – for example – “I want to lose ten pounds.” Then write out why.
“When I lose ten pounds. I will feel healthier and look better when I go out.” Notice the sentence structure.
“I want to…” Write it like that – not just “Lose ten pounds.” Own it!
“When I…” Write it like that so you are starting to own the results you want.
Second item: Create your realistic timeline.
Allow small increments to show you are making progress. So, if you want to lose ten pounds before a trip you are planning for the end of March or early April, is it realistic to set out to lose one pound a week starting Monday?
Write it out. “I will lose one pound a week starting Monday. I am going to lose ten pounds. In ten weeks.”
Use this sentence structure as you are going to speak these words out loud to affirm your commitment.
Third item: Find an accountability partner.
Best case is someone with a similar goal to you. This may be done in person, over the phone or by zoom. You will each share what you are doing and what you will be doing.
Then each week you will check in with each other and hold each other accountable. Create a scorecard for yourself and your accountability partner and keep track each week of your calls and the progress you are each making.
Now the example I have written is for a ten pound weight loss.
However, these exact steps may be utilized for any type of item. If there are multiple items just create a new page for each item and follow the same process. This does not have to be complicated. Sometimes people create a really complicated process to follow and that process itself is enough reason to give up it’s so complex. This is simple. It’s basic. It’s easy.
And the best part is – the system works!
Good luck to you on achieving your goals. Follow these steps. Speak your statements out loud each day at night and in the morning. The statements you wrote out – yes – speak those out loud!
Let me know how you make out.
