“Attitudes are nothing more than habits of thought and habits can be acquired.” - Paul J. Meyer Let’s consider during the lockdowns, constant washing, cleaning, and being isolated... what has your attitude been? How about the attitude of the one or more other people you may have and continue to be locked down with – how has their attitude been? Have you watched certain habits the other person or persons have now that you have been together more this last year than ever before in your … [Read more...]
Do You Begin With A Clean Slate?
When a tanker discharges the entire contents of her cargo, typically the tanks are cleaned prior to arrival at the next port location to load a new cargo. A similar method is followed for dry bulk cargo ships as well. There are numerous reasons with the two main ones being to avoid any contamination from the previous cargo and to insure the proper measurements at loading and discharging are accurate. In a similar fashion don’t we like to begin working on something new with a clean slate? This … [Read more...]
How Did You Feel The Very First Time?
What emotions come up when you experience something for the very first time? I remember the very first hurricane I went through onboard a merchant vessel, which was a bit top heavy at the time. As of the days past Thanksgiving this year it will be over one year since my wife and I have physically seen or been near three of our four kids. Now yes, they are adults now. However, in another time we would have visited them, wherever they lived in the USA, at least two, three or four times or more by … [Read more...]
How Do You Argue With The Facts?
This story is one I’ve heard on CNBC – from CEO’s, COO’s, Analyst and many others. “In order for something to happen at xyz, (whatever company they’re speaking about) it’s going to be like stopping a loaded Supertanker at sea. It’s going to take forever!” Let’s begin with a fact – Yes, if a Supertanker was fully loaded and traveling at full speed ahead and then stopped the engines it would take awhile to stop. Now that is a fact. In reality why would a Supertanker need to all of a sudden … [Read more...]
