Ships at sea are witnesses to the art of nature.
The beauty of a sunset as the red, orange and purple colors bring a close to the day. The wonder of a sunrise as the light from the sun seems to come right out of the ocean on the horizon.
There are the dangers brought from nature as well. Ships are exposed to all of the elements of nature. The fury of a storm with strong winds and heavy seas tossing a ship about like a mere cork floating in the open ocean.
For years if the storm was too great or an urgent situation aboard a ship presented itself, pulling into a port became the safest place to be. This was either to ride out the storm or find assistance with repairs or in handling another emergency situation aboard. It is the safe place to be.
Where is your safe place?
When you’re having a rough time in your business, your job, or in your personal life – where is your safe place?
Prior to COVID-19 many found a bar to be their safe place. The friendly bartender with a smile and an open ear. A welcome person to talk to. Many others find their faith to provide their safe place by going to church.
Where is your safe place when the former safe places are all off limits?
Here are a few ideas – any of us can do for ourselves to create our own safe place whenever we need to.
- Understand that our mind has a tremendous capacity to control our entire body. Meditation for ten minutes or more each day will Calm the mind and thereby Calm the body.
- Practice yoga for twenty minutes a day or for an hour every other day will bring a mindful relaxation to you through breathing – balance poses – working with your body and muscles – being aware of your heart.
- Setting aside five minutes at anytime where all devices and distractions are turned off, the lights are off or dimmed and you sit still and just take one deep breath after another. Slowly inhale and exhale and think of nothing – only your breathing.
- Go for a walk in a park or near water – a river, stream or ocean. Try to go for a walk every day.
