What Are You Willing to Do for Your Dream?

With the Women’s World Cup going on now…

Professional Golfer Brian Harman winning his first big event – Open Championship – by making all of his putts except one for the entire event…

And Taylor Swift continuing her record breaking concert tour…

Many may dream “Oh that would be the life, it can be me…”

It’s only natural to have wants and desires and dreams.

What would you be willing to do for your dream? One time I overheard John Maxwell as he was speaking with a younger person, clearly a fan, who said to John: “Mr. Maxwell, how do I get to speak up there on the stage just like you in front of all these people?”

John asked him what his name was and where he was from.

Here is what John said to the young man –

“Would you be willing to do what I’ve done every single day year in and year out, for years, to get to do what I do now? Would you put in the time , the sacrifice, the effort with little or no reward or recognition?”

Investigate a little bit about some of the individual soccer players on the USA Women’s World Cup Team.

Start with Lynn Williams – talk about perseverance! She overcame a family tragedy and fought through personal injuries that made the current outcome seem very unlikely to happen.

Do a search on Brian Harman and see how close he was to throwing it all in and giving up on the PGA Tour and pro golf. Somehow he was able to out duel the big drivers of the Pro Tour with his 5 ft 7 inch height by his consistent play and outstanding putting.

As Taylor Swift continues her sold out concert tour many people forget, or just don’t recall, the contractual rights to her music ordeal she went through. Taylor and her team broke all the rules as she re-recorded and continues to re-record her music and these are now her own. These recordings are not owned by a third party.

What Taylor and her team did was turn the music industry on its head as all the labels scurried around to change the wording in their contracts with other musicians. It was not easy, it was not fun, and everyone in the industry thought she was crazy at the time.

Bottomline is have a dream – have your dream

Then put in the time, the effort, the hard work, the risks and the sacrifices to make it a reality.

It’s the only way that dreams come true.
