Is it time for a check up?
Not a shock as the first quarter is coming to a close to be asked a question about checking how you’re doing is it?
Seriously it’s important, in fact, critical to know your numbers and be on top of things.
In your business are we making or losing money?
Are we hitting our targets in each area of the business? If not, why not?
What do we need to do better or where do we need to make changes?
How about our people? Is turnover trending higher than expected?
A rule of thumb is the cost of a person leaving and being replaced is at least two and a half times (2 1/2 X) their salary. So this is a serious problem to pay attention to.
How’s performance and the vibe of the workforce?
The end of the first quarter is early enough in the year to spot a trend and to take an action.
An excellent action is to gather the leadership team and have them all bring their write up from the previous year end and everyone share what they planned then and where they are now.
Everyone share and then open up for a discussion.
The meeting doesn’t end until definite action steps by specific people with a timeline are agreed to.
The thing is – this article isn’t really to get you or anyone to check on their business performance year to date.
Is it time for a check up?
When is the last time you had a physical examination?
Do you know your blood pressure?
Do you know your resting heart rate?
How about a blood test with the details of the key components?
How’s your weight vs. a year ago – your waist line vs. a year ago?
Not interesting and questioning why I’m asking these questions?
Maybe, just maybe you really need a check up from the neck up!
A stroke or a heart attack or some other condition may be giving some warning indicators, however, if you’re not checking your numbers and are totally unaware of your baseline numbers, how will you or anyone else see these indicators?
Please consider taking the first step and get yourself checked out.
And –
Do someone else a favor – ask them if it’s time for a check up?
