What Stage of Life Are You In?

What Stage of Life Are You In?

What stage of life you are in matters!

It impacts how you act and react to situations, other individuals, decision making, your time and your economics.

I’ve mentioned before how I utilize DISC profiles.

Why I prefer DISC is anyone is able to understand the profile results when we get together to review and discuss their profile results. A number of other personality profiles assume the actual user has taken a course in their specific methodology and has memorized all the definitions and acronyms. As their results have much of this woven into the report.

Back to the topic of discussion, the stage of life one is in. Now layer into this discussion the DISC profile of a person and the stage of life they are in and KABOOM! as the TV Batman show would display.

Why bring this topic up now?

Just coming off a very late in November Thanksgiving Holiday and before you know it a midweek Christmas Holiday. People have numerous added stress in their lives.

Years ago entire families lived in a neighborhood for generations. If you grew up in a place like that you know exactly what I’m talking about. Today, especially since Covid-19, many families are dispersed throughout the country.

If family members are traveling in to spend a midweek Christmas Holiday with other family members odds are they are not just going to be in town for a day or two.

“Mitch, what’s your point?”

Okay, okay, this isn’t Dr. Phil.

It’s the reason for bringing this topic up now.

Think about how you are communicating with your team.

How are they hearing you and seeing you?

Here’s a few tips when working with people during a potentially stressful period.

  1. See and take note of their body language.
  2. Go big on empathy.
  3. Ask and engage at a personal level before jumping right into the task at hand.
  4. Recognize the areas of a person’s life causing stress may not be known to you or others, however, the majority of people are working through some family items from Thanksgiving through Christmas. Safe to assume everyone has some added stress in their lives.
  5. If ever there is a time to only have necessary meetings – this is the time. Prepare an agenda – have only the people critical to identify problems, solutions and take on next steps present. Start on time, end on time and keep it short.
