Ever hear these words “Ready – Set – GO!” either as you were getting ready to run or compete in some fashion?
Or maybe when watching The Olympics Track competition when you hear “Take Your Mark” and then the sound is made to signal the start.
Here is the question after that question – Were you prepared?
If you were watching the event do you think each of the people competing were prepared? You and everyone else is certain each person worked hard, sacrificed and did everything they could to even participate, no less to win the Gold – right? Heads are nodding yes! You are saying, “dude, of course!”
Perfect! Then why doesn’t everyone prepare like that when they are:
- Going to a Networking Event
- Seeking to Obtain a New Job
- Heading Into an Interview
- Conducting a Meeting For Their Company
- Presenting a Speech
- Writing an Article
This is not the conversation about average and the bar for average being lowered in the United States every single year. Now this discussion could easily go down that path. No this is more about pride.
It is about value of self
This is about showing up each day to be your best and do your best. No matter who you are, where you are or what you do.
Vince Lombardi, the Hall Of Fame Football Coach has quotes which work well with this message. Starting with: “The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.” ~ Vince Lombardi
Read the quote aloud three or four times. Tell the truth – do you? The thing is too many of us – all of us – are trying too hard – to be somebody else.
Be secure in your own skin. Show up each day and be the best you – you can be.
Allow me to have Vince Lombardi introduce this next thought – “The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.” ~ Vince Lombardi
Across the board from education, to business, to the government – politics, the media and the list goes on…
Do you think everyone is moving along a path which is defined by these words?
What if even half or a quarter of the population did in fact move along a path defined by these words each day – what would the result be – in a day – in a week – in a month – in a year?
Yes, okay, you are being heard. This is what you are saying – “Mitch, yes, AGREED! Sure this sounds like really cool stuff I can get with, of course.
But…me, I’m only one person, what difference do I really make?”
Calling on Vince Lombardi one more time to bring me to an actionable close – “Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.” ~ Vince Lombardi
This is what may be done one person at a time. It may be in a town, in a city, in an organization – one person at a time. You are being asked today – No really not asked, you are each being challenged today. Show up and do your best – be dedicated and be determined – be committed to the team effort as a vital contributor.
