Do You Know Your Purpose In Life?
BAM!
Seriously read on… Nothing here to attempt to convert your way of thinking or guilt you about not following your passion. In fact let’s start right there with the p-word, passion.
Way too much time, effort and money, yes really hard earned bucks, are being spent on finding one’s passion. Everyone feels they need to feel good as soon as possible about everything they are doing.
This has many folks leaving a job they fought hard to get in order to find their passion. The next thing you know Mom and Dad are getting the call, the text or the email asking if it is okay to move back home for a little bit while they find their passion.
Now this is not to say it is not important to be passionate about something. In fact you might be passionate about a number of things! The point is – do not lead with passion.
Now one of my rules is to provide an answer or a solution and present it when you are going to remove something or knock it down. If you are being asked to not lead with passion – what are you going to do instead? A fair question that requires an answer according to my rules.
Discover Your Purpose.
Your purpose is bigger than you. It is something you are going to be fully committed to achieve. Dr. Albert Schweitzer said it like this: “…each individual must find a cause bigger than self in order to achieve ultimate happiness.”
In order to begin it is necessary to really look within. What are your values? What are the items on your list of dreams? Please take some time with this process. Do not let distractions get in your way.
Are you able to list the values one by one that make you up? Nothing but positive statements. What are your values? Slow down – this is not a goal setting workshop!
Good thinking though. Here is the deal… there is no point in setting a series of goals without a real end point in mind. In fact, you must have a starting point as well.
This would be – Where Are You Now?
This makes all the difference in the world!
One of the items you must have is your list of dreams. If you start your list of values and then compare this to your list of dreams are they on paths which would eventually cross? Or are they on different planets and diametrically on opposite planes?
If it is the latter – go back and rethink both your real list of values and your real list of dreams. Then compare the two lists again.
