It is something you can really worry about or you can really enjoy it. It is having a house by the beach. Right now after a few huge storms people who lived even inland from the beach had their homes severely damaged or washed away completely. It is my sincere hope they are recovering and working everything out. You can donate to the Red Cross if you want to provide some monetary assistance.
For today, let’s think about a nice warm day and going to the beach. You rub your feet in the warm sand while sitting in your beach chair. Maybe you are enjoying reading a book. Have you ever slid your hand off the side of your chair into the warm sand and scooped up a handful of sand? Then let the sand slowly slip away through and in between your fingers?
When the sand is warm and dry and your hand is not wet the sand slips right through without one grain of sand staying behind in your hand. In fact we don’t even notice a single grain of sand as there are so many grains of sand in one handful of sand.
Now how often have you been wearing a pair of shoes after your day at the beach and there is one grain of sand either in your shoe or in your sock and you can’t wait to shake loose that one grain of sand?
Uh – excuse me Mitch – where exactly are you going with this story?
There are numerous research articles which discuss the 50,000 to 70,000 thoughts and ideas which go through the human brain each day. Let’s assume these are like the sand on the beach.
Now you are out for your walk and there is that one grain of sand crying out to you inside your shoe or sock. You can’t wait to shake that one grain of sand loose.
Let’s assume that is the one thought – the one idea you really need to take action on.
Are you as quick to recognize that this is the one thought – the one idea you really need to take action on as you are to shake loose that one grain of sand from your sock or your shoe? Be honest.
Here is another way to think about this.
Many people ask if there will ever be another Steve Jobs, you know, another real success story like Apple.
Here is the question – if you met Steve Jobs before he became THE STEVE JOBS… let’s say you both met up at a bar or at the library or at Starbucks.. wait there was no Starbucks, well maybe there were a few of them… anyway you both met. Would you have taken him seriously and followed up and stayed connected with him or not? My guess is most people would have never followed up, never stayed in touch and probably would have thought he was kind of a strange guy with very odd ideas.
Some people, a very few may have tried to follow up or be connected with him but he wasn’t interested at first so they stopped trying. It is sad to say, however, this is highly probable and likely the outcome from this once in a lifetime meeting.
How do we create the awareness and the ability to be open to the one thought – that one awesome idea – and then focus on it without distraction?
Thoughts?
