There is no free lunch. You must have been told this at least a few times growing up. The person or store who is selling cookies learned a long time ago to offer small pieces of their cookies and have the package displayed nearby because many of the customers who tasted the free sample will make a purchase.
The expectation and the reward is the taste from the sample. Now with an entire bag or box of these luscious goodies they will go to town later at home or in the office. Total price paid by the customer is probably under $10 assuming one package was purchased. A small free taste leads to a purchase.
A personal trainer will potentially offer an introductory package of six or ten visits at a discount to get you started. They are certain you will see results during this time frame and you will then renew at the regular price for another six or ten sessions with them.
The expectation and the reward is typically to lose weight and to build some muscle tone. The prices do vary for personal trainers so here is an average from some local ads in my region $65 to $75 per hour. It is rare to obtain a free session.
The ability to take a car you are considering for a purchase out for a test drive has been part of the car selling strategy for long time. In fact, a number of auto sellers will give you a loaner vehicle for a few days to really try it out. This might be one of the ultimate try it for free samples based upon what your eventual price will be.
A free ride leads to a few years of monthly payments. The price to the customer is all over the place. You get the point. You found the vehicle you wanted and you were able to try it out for free.
