One thing you must do for yourself is to know your numbers.
Know your numbers in this context refers to your body health numbers. Your blood pressure, your resting and active heart rates, a blood test with a full range of the critical results and more.
For now one thing you must do for yourself is have your annual physical examination with your Doctor.
As the previous article, “Are You Helping Or Hurting Yourself”, discussed very often people who have high blood pressure don’t exhibit any symptoms of high blood pressure.
Meanwhile inside their body the stress and strain of high blood pressure is creating havoc.
These people have a high risk of developing heart disease, heart failure, and stroke plus other items.
Do you know that although the majority of folks who have a stroke are older than 61 years, over ten percent of strokes happen to people 45 years old and younger.
It’s the fastest growing segment of the population by age having a stroke. Young adults, high school children and even infants can experience a stroke.
This is why it is critical that you know your health numbers and your personal risk of a stroke at any age.
During your annual physical examination discuss with your doctor your risks of having a stroke. Are there any signs in the results that there may be a risk of a stroke? Discuss your family health history if it’s not asked. Obtain a copy of your test results so you have a base line for your blood pressure, heart rates and blood test results.
Your doctor’s office will have these of course. However, you must be involved in the numbers for your own body. Don’t you want to?
A large segment of patients, after having a heart attack for the first time, are given instructions to stop smoking, change their diet, reduce or stop drinking alcoholic beverages or their risk of having a second even more serious heart attack will increase dramatically.
What do you think many of these patients do first upon leaving the hospital? Smoke a cigarette!
The point of mentioning the heart attack story is to ask you to please take this seriously.
It’s your body. It’s your life. Your family loves you.
Your business needs you. The world needs you.
One thing you must do for yourself is to know your numbers.
And if you have not yet, be sure you schedule your annual physical examination with your doctor.
