Do You Know What You Are Looking For?

Know What You Are Looking For

Have you experienced the feeling of “now where did that go?”

Or “where did I put that?”

Then you start the hunting.

Maybe you look in your pants pockets, coat pockets, jacket pockets, back pack – no luck.

You go back to your car and search through there. You’re opening closets and drawers you didn’t even open before or go near since you’ve been home. At some point you start asking anyone else around if they saw it. You may recruit these same people to assist you in your search.

Sooner or later you probably find whatever you’ve been looking for all over the place.

Would you spend all this time and effort seeking and searching if you didn’t even know what you were looking for?

Would you keep seeking and searching to find ‘it’ when you didn’t even know what ‘it’ was?

This example really isn’t that different from running your business and even living your entire life without setting goals. When you have a goal you’re heading to that goal. You set a course and create plans to achieve the goal. You allocate your time and your efforts daily toward attaining the goals you have set.

Yes, you may change your goals for a variety of reasons. However, these are replaced with other goals. New courses are set and new plans are made.

During the process the goals may remain the same, however the course you set to get there needs to be adjusted. The plans which were created need to be redone. These are the natural adjustments that need to be made to achieve the goals you have.

This is not about telling you or anyone how to run their life or run their business.

This is about taking a moment and thinking.

Let’s start with the most basic example. I enjoy going out and taking a walk. I either have a destination in mind to walk toward. Or I have an amount of time to take my walk. Which means my walk will be an out and back in that time frame.

These are each goals that I’ve set for myself in taking a walk.

How much time did each decision take to determine the chosen goal? A millisecond. A basic example.

Here’s my suggestion for you.

If goal setting is new to you – start with basic goal setting. Then begin to stretch and set bigger goals. You will find numerous benefits from saving time, becoming more efficient and remembering what’s most important.

What goals are you setting to get started right now?
