In your business and personal life when you really look in the mirror how dependable are you?
Would people who know you well rate you high on the scale of dependability? If there was something important to be done… are you the person people who know you would ask to lead and take on the task?
It is possible none of this makes one bit of difference to you. It is possible you do not see why it is important.
Let’s think of something dependable.
The vast ocean and the tidal flow. Each and every day the tide comes in and the tide goes out.
This happens with such regularity that the location we may be located in has a tide table which much like a train schedule (possibly more accurate than a train schedule) which places the time of high tide and the time of low tide for each day on this schedule. It is dependable and predictable. Based upon this information fishing boats fish and other marine movement is scheduled.
Why wouldn’t the dependability of a person make a difference?
Let’s face it some folks get distracted. Some folks have a difficult time prioritizing. Other folks have other issues.
One thing is for certain – people who are dependable are the type of people I want to have on my team working with me. How about you?
For example: Have you ever been early for an appointment to meet with someone for lunch or dinner. You are seated at the table and now you are waiting for their arrival. Possibly you ordered a refreshment and even a small dish. Fifteen minutes after the scheduled time passes you text or call them. What happens next?
Clearly they forgot about the previously scheduled meeting with you.
You are able to tell this from the tone of their voice or from the response to your text message. Has this ever happened to you?
How do you feel about this person now after this took place one time or maybe even two times?
It is not about holding a grudge. It is about the proven dependability of the person. If something else came up a quick call of a text prior to the scheduled appointment to re-schedule would have been the proper thing to do.
Everyone wants to work with people and to surround themselves with people who are dependable. Don’t you?
