Did you fill out a bracket?
It seems like an annual obsession.
Everyone has at least filled out one bracket.
Many people have filled out multiple brackets.
A good number of these brackets have money involved.
You pay to submit the bracket and if you are the winner there’s money to win.
If you are not aware what a bracket is all about – this is about the Men’s and Woman’s NCAA Basketball Tournaments.
Here’s the Official Description as provided by Yahoo Sports –
The NCAA tournaments start with fields of 68 teams. These teams were announced Sunday evening March 16. Eight of those teams in each tournament – the last four at-large selections and the lowest-seeded automatic bid winners – will play elimination play-ins called the First Four.
The “bracket” is a visual representation of the tournament’s structure, outlining matchups between teams and predicting the winners of each game, with the goal of predicting the eventual champion. (bracket description provided by an AI overview)
The bracket filling out process and the watching of the games and recording the results has become a competitive sport in and of itself.
With many people back in the office the bracket discussions are overwhelmingly the most talked about item throughout the day.
Certain companies have actually started to clamp down on bracket game watching and bracket filling out at the office. Read it again.
These decisions are not achieving anything positive.
One of the big reasons given for everyone needing to be back in the office in person has been to interact and get to know your co-workers. Following the tournament games with your bracket in hand and discussing the various selections and the results with your co-workers is an excellent way to form a connection and to get to know your co-workers better.
There is no need to crack down on a little bit fun with each other as long as everyone understands they have a job to do and they get their work completed in a timely and professional manner.
Do you see this going on at your place of work?
How do you feel about it?
