Do you experiment? You know, try out new or different things?
I’ve been known to do just that!
Sometimes it’s a well planned experiment and other times it’s just a what the f—, sure let’s do that! That’s f – i – g- s by the way.
This year one week each month will have the main feature on a topic related to personal annoyances, or a lack of common sense item or anything else of interest to me which others may find bothersome too.
I say the main feature as the format for it may be an article, like this week, or an audio, or a video, or even a podcast.
So let’s kick this off with –
“Are You One Of These Three Fitness Center Jerks?”
Numero Uno – Heidi the light dumbbell hoarder.
It wasn’t obvious to me and my wife while working out where the five sets of lighter dumbbells disappeared to. Then while doing some ab work and stretching – there they were.
It seems Heidi gathered up the sets of dumbbells she planned to use after her treadmill run and hide them all under a mat in this little area of the gym.
Heidi wanted to have all these ready for her use when she was ready. Meanwhile no one else was able to use them, no less find them for close to an hour!
These were 5 lb. 7 lb. 10 lb. 12.5 lb. and 15 lb. pairs. For me I like the Tens and Fifteens for some high repetition sets of various arm movements.
Persona Dos – Sam the cell phone shouter.
If you’re lucky you’re already working out on the other side of the gym when Sam arrives. Typically he starts out on the treadmill and then begins making his phone calls. He doesn’t wear ear pods or a headset so his phone is on speaker.
This really make everyone extremely happy as now we can follow both sides of the conversation!
Sam’s speaking voice is more like a shout. It’s very similar to the beer guy walking the stands at Yankee Stadium or Citifield – “COLD BEER HERE! GET YOUR COLD BEER HERE!” Even on the rare occasion when Sam brought earphones his voice still bounced off the ceiling and walls.
Any signs posted about taking your cell phone calls out in the lobby clearly have an extra invisible sentence on them – EXCEPT FOR SAM.
Amigo Tres – Fran the Fountain of Sweat
It doesn’t matter if it’s 90 degrees F outside or 10 degrees F outside – in the gym on the cross-trainer – Fran has on a thick sweatshirt or a sweater, yes a wool sweater.
Within 10 minutes the sweat is starting to slowly drip off her chin. By the half hour mark there is a defined drip area around Fran and her machine of choice. Near the end of her cardio workout there’s a pool, a lake or a river if the floor’s not even all around Fran.
The worst part is when she’s done on the machine, she never wipes it down. Not even a fake wipe with a tissue. She just walks away to drown some other area.
Please tell me you’re not one of these people!
Every gym and fitness center has them and other characters as well.
Why not share a story from your experiences at the gym or fitness center you go to?
