How often in your life are you presented with choices?
There are choices in my life which have been in every single area. These have spanned career, family and personal, investment opportunities, and so much more. These choices continually present themselves. How about you?
Then we make decisions based upon a variety of factors and influencers at the time. Sometimes the decisions we make turn out for the best for everyone involved. Other times not so much. Why is it that the decisions we make which do not turn out too well are the ones we think about more often and remember all too well.
It would be so much better to allow the good decisions to linger and to build upon these in order to make the right choices more often.
Me and my wife together have four adult children – all over the age of 26.
When we were invited to a surprise party for one of them in San Diego recently we wondered if everyone would be able to find the time, the money and make the effort to be there. For three of us traveling from the Northeast the trip would be a longer one. This trip would mean more time away from many important deadlines, meetings and other self imposed obligations.
These are some of the influencers that arise every single time when a choice must be made.
Where do we each draw lines or walls into what influencers we allow to enter into our decision making process?
Do we consider events with our family to over ride other obligations?
What events matter more than others?
Who else is involved and would be impacted by a decision we make?
What lessons remain after the fact?
For us as parents we were extremely proud of our four kids – adults actually.

Each of them figured out how to arrange their schedules, book their flights and we all had our fictitious stories to be in San Diego while actually there to support the surprise party given by our son’s girlfriend. I guess they were adulting.
No actually – they wanted to be there. They knew this was one of those decisions they wanted to get right. Yes, there were costs in terms of time away, money and more. However, the right decision and the time spent together will allow the right decision to linger for each of us.
Consider when you are presented with choices what the influencers are as they impact you in your decision making.
Do your best to allow the right decisions to linger longer.
