We have all been there. Even with your GPS ‘helping you out’.
Driving a car in an unfamiliar area where you need to get to has you coming up against one dead end after another.
Maybe the roads were renamed or the area has been redesigned and clearly the signal to the GPS has not been too good for awhile anyway.
What to do?
Some options when driving are to go back the way you came in and see if you might figure out another route to take. Look for someone to ask who might be able to guide you along toward the way you need to go. Try to call someone where you are going and maybe they will be able to explain to you a few options assuming you are able to fairly accurately describe where you are now to them.
Now what happens when in your business or in your career or your job search you find yourself at a Dead End? The signs are clear.
You are at one dead end after another. What do you do?
Here are a few options which you might consider.
- Go back to your starting point. How did you get to where you are now? Where do you want to go? Are there some other options you have not explored yet? Is there another way to go about this activity.
- Who might you be able to speak with or team up with to either guide you or work with you to explore other options to get you where you want to go? Maybe they have been there before? Maybe they work with you right now?
- Have you considered bringing in a resource that you hire to be your champion. Now the role they play is not to always be your cheerleader. In fact, they may bust your chops every so often.
The point is they are there for you with no other agenda. One thousand percent for you. Maybe they have solutions for you to consider. Maybe they have a network to open up doors for you.
It is quite possible the experience they have will have the keys to unlock the gate creating your dead end.
If you feel like you are at a dead end the last thing you want to do is to keep doing the same thing over and over again. Try out one or more of these options and you will find the solution you are seeking to move ahead.
