In your part of the world, did the sun rise this morning?
What are some other consistencies you may think of?
Yes, of course, the sun will set later today as well.
What are some others?
The tide will come in and the tide will go out.
Anything else come to mind?
In your life do you have certain constant behaviors and values which are consistent? Day in and day out this is who you are?
People expect you to show up, react to, and display yourself in this consistent manner all of the time.
It is possible there is a family vacation or a few which you go on more or less the same time of year every single year.
Let’s not confuse a habit with a consistent behavior you are known for.
For example – if you order for lunch a tuna salad sandwich on whole wheat toast with lettuce every single day for lunch from the same shop – it is a habit you will be known for not a consistent behavior that people respect you for having. Not to mention it makes for a boring life eating the same exact lunch every single day – no judgment though.
What about in your business? Are there certain constants?
Either a service provided a certain way – all of the time – every time?
OR
A certain product line which works the same way every single time and is so dependable no one ever gives it a second thought.
In the areas of marketing and sales these are concepts people are paid to develop and achieve – a certain tagline – a certain branding utilizing logos and colors – even a well known spokesperson.
Feel free to utilize the comment section for this article to share your constants. Then come right back here. If you do not have any at all to share, consider at the very least for your business what might be done to create a few constant and consistent items.
These may include internal items as well. It is of the utmost importance to create a certain healthy culture internally for any business. A toxic culture will destroy a business.
Some items to consider are company outings.
The size of the company doesn’t make a difference. Bloomberg LP in their New York City Office has a summer outing every single year. The company takes over part of an island within the city, hires ferries to shuttle employees to and from Manhattan, provides food, beverages, entertainment and they do this every single year.
A networking group has a golf outing every single year, purchases group tickets to a New York Yankees game and a New York Mets game each year and people from this networking group who are able to attend all go to these events and enjoy each others company in a social setting. These events are held every single year.
These are a few examples and there are so many more. The point is , these are not randomly set up events. These are intentionally planned events to promote internally a camaraderie and a culture.
Consider one or two consistent behaviors for you as a person and for your business and see if these might make it to your constants list.
