It Was A Coin Toss!

What do you do when you have two ideas to write about?

Allow me a few moments to explain…

The first idea was to speak about the Reliance Conversation. In essence, are we in our personal lives and in our business operations becoming too reliant on the internet? We go a step further and add in electricity as much of the grid which provides our electricity is working through the use of the internet.

Coin Toss - Marketing on box

The second idea is to speak about a new marketing opportunity to become available. Most of us recognize the rapid growth of shopping online and through Amazon. The boxes are shipped and often stack up in front of your home. Now the inside of the box will be made available as the next billboard.  Right there on the bottom of the box and possibly the sides inside the box as well will be marketing messages.

What was I going to do?   Flip a coin!

For this week heads would be the Reliance Conversation and Tails The Marketing Space inside the box.   One flip would decide – Tails.

It may not be such a new idea to market inside of a box.

For years we have ordered everything from snacks, running shoes, and books. Inside of the box which held our item was always a page or a card offering a discount or a special item to order.

Now the actual box will carry the message.

Even more interesting will be the tracking and the analytics behind the marketing opportunity.  The item ordered will dictate the advertisement.

For Example:  If the order placed was for any item related to a baby – Let’s say a set of bottles with the nipples and a cleaning brush for them. The offers inside the box would all relate to a newborn. Everything you might imagine might be advertised from the baby monitor kit to clothing to diapers.

Let’s consider a second example – an order for running shoes. The offers inside the box might be for socks, running clothing, a Garmin watch for working out and especially for running.

Now this type of marketing is really targeted marketing.

Add into the mix some of the customer buying history and the zip code or address and a fairly accurate profile may be developed to market toward this person or even this family.  Many people may be thinking – dude – creepy!  Well unless you have been living in a cave for the last ten years this is what is going on in the internet every single time you log in.

There is something weird about this all being inside the box you have right there in front of you in your house.  It makes it more real.

Here is the question now for you – will you take advantage of this marketing opportunity?

Better yet – where are your inside the box opportunities you have available to you right now to use in a new way to get in front of your ideal clients and customers?
