Is that what the two to three years of the Covid-19 lockdowns has done to having conversations and discussions with people of differing viewpoints?
You know what I’m speaking about.
We all are witnessing and many partake in this every single day. We have predetermined who we will speak with about certain subjects or if we will interact with them at all.
Family, yes even family members, no longer interact with each other and it’s not only speaking with each other – they no longer physically share their presence with each other. This over differing points of view and their unwillingness and inability to have an engaging, civil conversation.
In the workplace there are certain companies where a viewpoint held by an employee becomes a reason they can no longer work there.
Where the workplace culture dictates that a recruit who may have a certain viewpoint will never be hired.
When it is not as drastic as this, it becomes clear that certain topics are not to be discussed at all with co-workers.
What has happened is that no one listens any longer.
Even if the person is sitting there right across from you quietly while you are speaking.
They are not listening. They are waiting.
Waiting for you to stop and shut up!
Now it’s that’s what they have been waiting for – they want to react!
They want to say their stuff.
They want you to hear their point of view.
Typically now the tables have been turned and you are sitting there quietly across from them while they are speaking.
You are not listening. You are waiting.
Waiting for them to stop and shut up!

You want to say your stuff.
They need to hear your point of view.
And on and on it goes….
