You can almost feel the moaning and groaning.
Not a reference to anyone who has lost a loved one, a friend or someone they know really well. No this is not about that. Look let’s get real.
As of the days past Thanksgiving this year it will be over one year since my wife and I have physically seen or been near three of our four kids. Now yes, they are adults now. However, in another time we would have visited them, wherever they lived in the USA, at least two, three or four times or more by now in a given year. It just so happens they currently live in various parts of California. Which means it was just not safe to travel there to visit.
Thankfully there is technology to allow us to stay in touch by phone, zoom and various social platforms. So this is what we have and we are thankful for it.
The moaning and groaning we hear around us are those wondering how much longer before things get back to normal.
It’s not for me to break the news – the old normal may never return.
Life is different now. This difference will have created lasting impacts on everything we considered normal before March 2020.
Imagine if you were on another planet or in space without any news or current events from earth for the previous ten months. You return on December 4th. How do feel and what are you thinking as you absorb what you are witnessing? Think of the behaviors you need to change and the adjustments you must make to your former routine.
Here is the honest truth to grab onto – we can only control what we can control – nothing more, nothing less.
Take joy and be thankful for what you have and what you can do each day. Otherwise you are guaranteed to be miserable. Plus you will certainly make everyone around you miserable.
Often when we are challenged with a personal health crisis or another type of direct hit to us as individuals – we awaken to the fact that living a life filled with constant pressure, stress, being scheduled out 27 hours a day in a 24 hour day is not living life. It is like living in a shaken snow globe world where the snowflakes are our minds racing with thought after thought without resting and regrouping.
Is it possible that for each of us this time is that time?
A time when we are each challenged enough to step back – rethink – regroup – and determine what we want our life to be like for us and our loved ones?
As we enter December take a moment to reread and think into these thoughts of mine. These thoughts of mine which I’m sharing with each of you. A general theme for this month will emerge out of these thoughts each week this month. A perfect month to reflect – rethink – regroup and plan for the coming year. Hope you’ll join me.
