When a tanker discharges the entire contents of her cargo, typically the tanks are cleaned prior to arrival at the next port location to load a new cargo. A similar method is followed for dry bulk cargo ships as well. There are numerous reasons with the two main ones being to avoid any contamination from the previous cargo and to insure the proper measurements at loading and discharging are accurate.
In a similar fashion don’t we like to begin working on something new with a clean slate?
This means different things to different people. A clean slate may mean a new pen and a fresh pad of paper. Or a fully charged laptop ready to create, record, design whatever the new project may require of us.
A majority of us don’t think about the influence our past experiences, habits and ways of thinking that will most likely impact whatever new items we are working on!
One way to work on this is to recognize we can only control what we can control. On a ship we at sea we cannot control the weather. If we know a storm is coming we may try to avoid it. Sometimes we are able to avoid the storm and other times we must ride these storms out. For this last year everyone has had to ride out the virus – all over the world – everyone is impacted – and still is. We cannot control it.
What we can do is work on our mind.
Many people have taken the opportunity during isolation and lockdowns to learn new things. Utilizing online courses to expand their minds in a variety of subjects – From a new language to cooking to learning to draw and much more.
This month each week will be about specific areas of personal growth available for you to take advantage of with the opportunity to expand your horizon. Always introduced or woven in with ocean going sea story or two!
