In wrapping up the discussion on the importance of a Vision, Mission and Values statement is this question
Does the company, specifically your company, stand behind its words?
It’s one thing to invest the time, effort and money to create the meaningful and creative Vision, Mission and Values statement.
It’s another thing to stand behind the words.
Actually walk the talk. Say it and then demonstrate what you’re saying.
Large publicly traded companies fall under the microscope more often than small or mid-sized companies, however, whenever there are accusations of prioritizing profit over their stated environmental or social values or other behaviors that are oppositional to their public image the risks are huge. Potentially consumer trust erodes, there may be negative publicity, boycotts and backlash on social media.
For example in these photos are water containers distributed by two different companies to their clients.
Both companies have made public statements and have marketing material about their interest in the environment and lessening their impact on the environment in regard to lessening any negative footprint.
One company distributes boxed water to the guests in the rooms at their hotel.

These boxed water containers have been designed to minimize any negative impact. Notice the cap remains connected to the bottle. This prevents a lost cap causing a wasted half full water bottle because the cap goes missing plus the cap itself will not become an issue in the environment by clogging up a pipe or a drain or being swallowed by a bird or animal.
There are no rules or laws to utilize only boxed water containers.
This company does it to walk their talk.
The other company distributes plastic water bottles to their ticketed passengers on long haul flights.

There are zero warning labels on these plastic water bottles of the potential risks of consuming microplastics, tiny particles of plastic, when drinking from these plastic water bottles. There are no rules or laws requiring any statement or warning labels on plastic water bottles, yet.
Plus the efforts to properly recycle these water bottles and their caps continue to stress an overloaded recycling system.
The point here is not to discuss the environmental impact and the use of plastic containers or the potential harm of drinking from plastic containers. Rather I’m utilizing this real world example with my photos to display the topic at hand.
